So if you have a dead fetus inside you, you are now screwed. No more dilation and extraction for you. Yes the “ruling” claims it is OK for dead fetuses, but how will you prove it? Anyone remember Terry Schiavo? She had a heart beat and respirated on her own but was brain dead. However, according to Congress, she was alive and well.
From the NY Times:
The Supreme Court reversed course on abortion on Wednesday, upholding the federal Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act in a 5-to-4 decision that promises to reframe the abortion debate and define the young Roberts court.
The most important vote was that of the newest justice, Samuel A. Alito Jr. In another 5-to-4 decision seven years ago, his predecessor, Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, voted to strike down a similar state law. Justice Alito’s vote to uphold the federal law made the difference in the outcome announced Wednesday.
Neo-con fascism at its worst and I don’t think it is going to get any better. Does this nation have the courage to stand up to this and the rest of the idiocy in our government? To quote Lee Iacocca, “Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder.”
Back to the Times:
Mr. Bush welcomed the ruling, saying: “The Supreme Court’s decision is an affirmation of the progress we have made over the past six years in protecting human dignity and upholding the sanctity of life. We will continue to work for the day when every child is welcomed in life and protected in law.”
It was also a vindication for the strategic choice the anti-abortion movement made 15 years ago, when the prospect of persuading the Supreme Court to reconsider the right to abortion seemed a distant dream.
By identifying the intact procedure and giving it the provocative label “partial-birth abortion,” the movement turned the public focus of the abortion debate from the rights of women to the fate of fetuses. In short order, 30 states banned the procedure.
Ironically, we have been fighting them there when we should have been fighting them here.
I wonder when Victoria’s Secret will start selling burqas?

Thank you, this is excellent. I was reduced to inarticulate swearing when I heard about the decision.

I think George Carlin said it best about the Sanctity of Life in one of his rants. I do not know his exact phrasing, but this is the gist of it:
“Sanctity of Life is utter BS! Which life is sacred? All life? In that case, what about that bug you just squished? It was alive. How about that roast beef sandwich you’re eating? That cow…it was alive.
“But that doesn’t matter to you does it? So not all life is sacred then. How about Human Life? Well, what about those people in the middle east? Aren’t their lives sacred? Guess not enough to actually DO something about it, is there?”
Yeah, Life is not as sacred as folks would like to think. That sanctity of Life (human or otherwise) only applies when it is conveniant. Think about it…

As bad as we gays have it, I sometimes think it’s worse for straight/breeder women. But what’s truly maddening is — in comparison to the gay vote, which is not huge but uniformly progressive (relatively speaking) — a HUGE percentage of women support the worst elements of the political system that keeps them enslaved like this. I look at the pictures of all those women at the Huckabee rallies and all I can think is “brainwashed.”
