Bush vetoed the military funding bill because he wants free reign to continue the war in Iraq. you know, the one where we fight them there and not here?
Guess what? Bush’s war has come to New Jersey. From Burlington County Times:
Six Islamic radicals, four of them from Cherry Hill, were arrested and charged Monday night with planning a heavily armed attack against soldiers at Fort Dix.
The men planned to “kill as many soldiers as possible†in the attack, which was described as part of a religious jihad, or “holy war,†but has not been connected to any international terror organizations such as al-Qaida.
The group scouted Fort Dix and other potential targets, watched terrorist training videos and discussed attacking soldiers at Fort Dix with mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles, prosecutors said.
Yeah, it probably was that smart to go up against Fort Dix, but how long will it take for Jihadies to turn towards softer targets in America?
Bush promised to keep us safe. Just another broken promise. Is the 28% really surprised?

I disagree…
The fact that those six were caught before they could do anything is one of many testements to the policies that and actions that have helped raise awareness and fight domestic attacks like this.
6 or more years ago, those guys would have been able to enact their plan.
6 years ago, when those 6 guys had done their work, there would be questions of “how could we have known?”. A lot of the evidence that popped up that caused those guys to get caught would have surfaced slowly but surely.
Frankly, I am glad that they were caught before they did anything at all.
I would much rather have planners of that sort caught before their plans are put into action.
Lets face facts Stormbear, you cannot stop people from thinking and planning stuff. You can stop them from executing those plans. It is insane to suggest that policies can be put into place that would have prevented those men from thinking their thoughts and making their plans to cause destruction.
You should criticize failure…not success.

What part of the Patriot Act stopped this from happening? What phone lines did they tap illegally to get the information? Did they find evidence from getting someones account information illegally? Did they sweat or water torture someone for a tip? No because it was a shop keeper who informed the authorities. It had nothing at all to do with Bush and anything thats happened in the 6 years. Grow up. Terrorism is a police matter (a grave one for sure) in each country and co-ordination is needed between agencies but the Army is not and cannot be a help in stopping terrorism. All it can do is create more of this same thing.

Sez you:
“6 or more years ago, those guys would have been able to enact their plan.”
Since you seem to insist on ‘facts’ in what way can you prove that statement? I’ll help you out. You can’t.

Oh, please AnimeFreak40K,
You’re kinda missing the point.
I would not be so quick to credit the Dept. of Homeland Security for sleuthing this one out. These guys in NJ were no brain surgeons, that’s for sure. Probably related to that dufus on the transatlantic flight who tried to light a tennis shoe bomb while it was still on his foot. These guys must’ve been over in this country a little too long and got dumbed down by reruns of Jackass and America’s Funniest Home Videos on cable TV. Bad Islamic Fundamentalists! No 72 Virgins In Paradise for you!
Can you imagine Mohammad Atta going to the Logan Airport Rite-Aid on September 10, 2001 and wanting a DVD made of him and his hijacker cohorts’ home videos of themselves crashing radio-controlled 767 models into mock-ups of American architectural icons? “Ha ha, Nazir, I’m going to crash this into infidel Empire State Building! King Kong is Jihadist, ha ha! Allahu Akhbar!”
Yeah, right.
Look at the case of Mr. Cho down in W. Virginia. Granted, he was not (as far as we know) part of some terrorist wing but look at the evidence he had been literally spewing out, for months, no, years! And several responsible people made an issue of it, but to no avail. Not even Mr. Cho’s dorm roommate took the time to put two and two together.
The fact is that most of us just don’t care, unless it affects us personally and immediately. We’re just too busy indulging ourselves in other things (mostly, mindless consumerism). This is how we allowed ourselves to be duped into going over to Iraq in the first place.
Oh, yes, we will be fighting them here. In fact, we have conveniently forgotten that we began by fighting them here (Oklahoma City was no act of Jihad).
The real problem, unfortunately, is not about “them” at all. As Walt Kelly, creator of the comic strip Pogo, said prophetically a generation ago, “We have met the enemy, and they is us.”

Actually, as a matter of fact, I can.
Let me first start off by asking you the following:
- Have you ever been near and/or on a Military Instaliation before?
- If so, what was the manner of this installation in the first place? Was it geared towards Active Duty, Reserves, National Guard? Was it not really military at all, in the same light that Aberdeen Proving grounds, though is a military installtion, it does not house or make use of combat soldiers for training.
I will inform you that I have, in fact been on, in and near United States military installations both domestic and abroad.
Before 11 September 2001 (that is, 6 years ago), it was extraordinarly easy to get onto most military bases. I should know. I joined the United States Army in September of 1997. To get onto an Army base back then, you simply had to walk out past the gate, just as if you were walking to your corner grocery store.
No guards. No cameras. The public at large had free and easy access to go on and off post to conduct whatever business that they saw fit at any given moment in time.
After 11 September 2001, it became a lot more difficult to get people to come onto a military base. In fact, a lot of soldiers all but stopped going off post just because it was so difficult to get back on! I will not go into the details about how difficult it was for dependants and soldiers who had off-post housing to get to and from work every day…
Fast forward a little to September of 2005: I am still in the Army at this time, and it is still difficult to get onto and off of post, but not impossible. Regular visitors can get temporary passes, but not before having to jump through a lot of hoops. Soldiers and their families get easy access stickers for their vehicles, but they must STILL stop and show ID.
No Sticker? You get stopped, questioned and your vehicle is likely to get searched. No pass? same thing. If you have neither, you are NOT allowed on post until you get either a pass or a sticker.
So from sheer experience in my time as an active duty soldier, I know for a FACT, that before 11 September 2001, anybody could drive on post with a car load of assault rifles and done whatever they damn well wanted to do. No prior planning necessary. Just jump in your car and go.
Unique, I do not mind having my stance and opinion being questioned or doubted, but do not assume that I have no facts to back them up.
