For me, Edwards really stepped up and out at the debate last night and it was mostly due to the fact he took responsibility for his war vote. Obama got off one zinger but zingers only zing ONCE. Edwards has kept a steady pace of “I was wrong on the war” meme and I think that will pay off more in the long run than Obama will get for his “4 and half years is too late to show leadership” sound bite.
Here’s why. Bush never apologizes for jack shit. Even when it came to Katrina, it was never his fault directly. He always danced around the issue of personal responsibility and muddied the water of an apology better than anyone else I have ever seen. But a politician, especially a PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE that comes clean and admits he was wrong and repeats it at every appropriate opportunity, will seem more the polar opposite of Bush than the rest of the crowd.
Biden’s rant on Dafur was good and probably his best moment, but alas, it is about 4 and half years too late.

Yeah, I want to know why politicians can’t apologize? They say the media will make a big deal and the pol will look foolish…Well, those that can’t say simply “I was wrong” are the one’s with tremendous egos and no humility…they appear (are)intransigent, uncompromising, inflexible. Why doesn’t the media complain about that?

The reason they can’t say they were wrong is because they’ll then be asked why they got it wrong. They’ll be asked why they didn’t read the NIE. They’ll be asked if they let political considerations make their decision. They’ll be asked why it took so long for them to admit they were wrong and if it had anything to do with running in a Democratic primary. Edwards has only been asked that first question and he didn’t have an answer. You can be sure that he’ll be asked the other two in the months to come. I suspect he doesn’t have an answer to them either.

This is a hilarious comic; I love it.
I fully support John Edwards, and I would have to completely agree with you. He took responsibility for his actions–he knows what he did was wrong.
He shows maturity, which, by the time people are his age, it should really be expected. But we have reached an entirely new level of politics that I don’t know what to expect anymore.
All I know is John Edwards is the only one fully qualified for the job. In fact, I’ve never seen a man (or WOMAN) more perfect for it.

HAH
See, that is the type of stuff that gets my respect, right there.
How well will it work? Who can say for sure.
Unfortunatly, in today’s day and age, people do not get into office for their morality, stance on policies or anything that is remotely important to doing their job…instead, politicians must sell themselves and make themselves liked. They tell people what they want to hear, instead of the truth. Sad, but true.
While Edwards, very true statement of ‘I made a mistake’, is good and honest, how far will that get him? Yes, it would take him very far for people like you and me…but for the vast majority of the citizenry that does not like to hear “Whoops”, it may prove to be his downfall. Why? Because the public WANTS to hear things like “I thought it was so the UN could get done quicker” or “Because Bush lied to me”. They would rather hear something…ANYTHING other than someone admit that they screwed up.
…Why? I have no bloody clue.
