Most folks I know have a preferred candidate – Hillary, Obama, Edwards or Gore. But the crazy thing is, they will turn right around and say, “you know who I really want to vote for? Kucninch.”
I have those same feelings – I love Kucinich and think he would make the best President. His values most closely resemble my own. Why not vote for him?
Irrational fear. Total fear that the Republicans will lie about Kucinich and Fred Thompson will win the election. Wait, the GOP is gonna lie anyway, no matter what, so why the fear?
One thing I finally noticed about Kucinich during the AFL-CIO debate was how Kucinich always made more points during his alloted time than other candidates. I have been thinking about this and found the answer when I was reading the transcript. Kucinich doesn’t equivocate. He doesn’t dance around an issue – he goes straight for the explanation and since his past is not littered with idiotic support of bad bills, HE has nothing to fear, so why do I?
Yes, why do I fear? Do I think Hillary can win? No. I think she loses the election, the second she is nominated. Isn’t THAT something to fear? Do we think Fred Thompson, Gingrich or whatever other ass-wipe the GOP nominates will give a shit about universal healthcare, the environment or peace? Nope, it will be a straight continuation of 8 years of BushCo. Isn’t my fear displaced?
Who is the strongest Democrat in Congress? Kucinich.
What Congressman never LOST their spine in the politically crushing days after 9-11? Kucinich.
Who knows how to answer a direct question asked by We The People? Kucinich.
I think something changed for Kucinich during the AFL-CIO debate – I can’t put my finger on it, but something changed. Maybe it was his eagerness to address We The People with truth, honesty and integrity? Maybe it was just the other candidates equivocating on whatever nonsense answer their staff prepared for them months ago?
Maybe it was because the other candidates showed fear and Kucinich didn’t. He never flinched.
That is leadership as I see it. And from this point forward I will NOT fear to support Kucinich.
He is just like me. My values are the same as his. If I was in Congress, I would vote like he does. I no longer fear. I refuse to allow the GOP to manipulate me into supporting lesser candidates.
That just might be called courage.

Gravel or Kucinich said what they did because they have nothing to lose. They aren’t going to be elected. Obama and Clinton have over $30 million, and Edwards is the closest to either at $15 million. That’s an almost impossible hill to climb.
August 10th, 2007 at 11:00 am
Don’t believe the electability meme. It seeks to take away your vote from you and give it to a candidate who may not be the one that represents your views. Vote for the candidate who best represents your views in the primaries, and then support the nominee who comes closest to your views.
Don’t believe the meme!
Go Dennis!

I think the thing I most admire about Dennis is the Truth he speaks; a truth without ridicule, humiliation – always the facts.

Wow. You stated the case perfectly. Oddly enough, it seems most people feel the same way you do. At least, according to this (non-scientific) quiz. Take a look at the results:

The money does not have anything to do with it, who you vote for does.
The Coporate owned Media have got you maniupulated into thinking that only a candidate with X amount of millions of dollars can win the election. They need for you to believe this because they desperately want a Corporate owned President in the White House. Can you blame them? This is how the Corporate Elite gets HUGE tax breaks, PLENTY of deregulation AND, they are taking an ever more increasing role in not just suggesting, but MAKING Foreign and Domestic Policy decisions. This by the way is known as FACISM.
You cannot trust the results of the Polls you see plastered all over CBS, ABC, CNN, and MSNBC. Remember our mainstream Media is owned lock, stock, and, barrel by a small number of Coporations. For example, MSNBC is owned by General Electric. GE donated 1.1 million dollars to the
George Dubya campaign fund in 2000. If you look at these polls you will note that often they don’t tell you what the question was. How did they ask the question, and WHERE were they asking it? For all we know, they took the sample from an area in New York where they know Clinton is well liked.
Of course she’d get 44%!
The country belongs to WE THE PEOPLE, not an Elite group of Corporations who are only concerned with furthering their own agenda and comfort.
Obama and Clinton are Corporate owned candidates. I urge you to consider supporting Dennis Kucinich; register at his
Forum and particpate in the discussions. Open your eyes, look around the decide who you want to vote for. JUST DON’T LET THE MEDIA DECIDE FOR YOU!
Respectfully,
SusanforKucinich2008!

Hey Marti,
It is impossible when individuals like yourself are making it impossible with such statements. Kucinich’s campaign is about a change of mindset, and that starts right here and right now, with individuals like yourself. It’s now or never. What does money have to do with the individual’s policy, character and leadership? Are we supposed to vote according to who raised the most money? That seems rather weak-spirited and fraudulent, don’t you think? Please look into your heart because deep down I think Americans are ready for Kucinich. The only thing holding them back are themselves. Learning to vote from the heart (in this case for Kucinich) is like a young child who has learned to swim in shallow water and is afraid of the deep end… once the child has the courage to immerse himself in the deep waters, he finds that he has nothing to fear. Sometimes that child needs a little encouragement or a little push. Let this post be a little encouragement to you and to all who happen to read this.

I don’t know about this guy…he is a new player to me. I will have to so some homework on him before I make a decision.
However, I do agree completely with rjones2818. Only vote for and select the canidates that best support your views. Not what everyone else wants you to go with.
August 10th, 2007 at 3:55 pm
LOL, isn’t that the truth…while Bush’s nose is getting longer, Kucinich’s stature is getting taller! Surprising things can happen in politics. (After all, the media predicted Dewey’s “win” over Truman! ) Kucinich is pure cream – slowly but surely rising to the top.
August 10th, 2007 at 4:07 pm
You have my agreement about Kucinich. Last night in the LoGo Gay and Lesbian Forum he stood out again with direct answers and an adherence to progressive principles. No talking around issues, no hemming and hawing. In a way, he had the honesty and directness that used to be associated with Truman. You may recall that Truman wasn’t considered charismatic, either. But he got the job done… and got elected when people thought he couldn’t.
August 10th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
I don’t care how much money the other candidates have. It really doesn’t matter since my vote is free and I am voting for and supporting the only electable candidate, Congressman Dennis Kucinich.
August 10th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
I wish the American people would stop acting like the idiots that our government and mainstream media think we are. We bitch when politicians lie and are bought off, and here we have an unbelievably honest man that refuses to take polluted corporate money, and FOR THAT REASON the sheeple (with the help of corporate media) don’t think he can win.
I love this blog and the comic strip, and the only thing I fear is someone other than Kucinich winning. I’m afraid the others are not that different from Bush as far as corporate whoredom and war go.
I certainly want a President that is smart enough to make decisions and be right about them. Not to tell us, “I was wrong about this or that” (or like Hillary, not even admitting she was wrong in making Iraq her war also. The speeches she made back then sound like Bush/Cheney themselves, and not even the “lite” version.) Kucinich has never had to take back anything he’s said or done in his long political career. He speaks from the heart and his heart is open, and that’s probably what makes people uncomfortable. That kind of honesty can be uncomfortable, especially when we’re not used to that from politicians. He is the UN-politician!
August 11th, 2007 at 10:39 am
I took a poll which was supposed to tell me who to vote for after they evaluated my answers in the poll. Guess What? Kucinich is supposed to be my man. I don’t know him very well but I’ll have to look into him, after all could the poll takers be wrong?
August 11th, 2007 at 11:03 am
i love kucinich and this post is right on target. i’ve read so many blogs where people were like “KUCINICH! WOO! Too bad he’ll never win…” if we have that expectation and don’t put our support behind him he never will.
so yes. i didn’t even realize i was doing that ’til i read your blog. thank you
August 11th, 2007 at 2:38 pm
Kucinich ALL the way. We need a canidate who can change the world (for the better) and will stand for what he believes in, which is our rights and our freedom, and peace.
August 12th, 2007 at 3:12 am
Kucinich is the only Democratic candidate who has ALWAYS voted against the war and its funding. Kucinich has the best plan for education, the environment, getting out of Iraq, and just about everything else. Vote for who you think deserves it, or you’re just as bad as the media that we all complain about. With that being said, I’ll leave you with a quote:
“I want you to understand how it [my presidency] will transform this nation when you have a president who cannot be bought or bossed, who has the willingness to speak out when others would be silent.”
DENNIS KUCINICH FOR PRESIDENT.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:25 am
Just freakin’ do it! What do we have to lose??
We are in dire need of a complete 180 away from these criminals masquerading as our leaders
CAN WE SAY IT TOGETHER??
KUCINICH HAS MY VOTE!!!
sheesh! just do it!
August 20th, 2007 at 5:59 pm
Bravo!
I like Kucinich.
I have liked Kucinich all through this.
I will Vote for Dennis Kucinich if I get the chance.
I hope if Dennis does not get the dems nod..that he run as Independant.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Is a leader emerging now from the grass roots?
James Carville is in charge of finding the best Dem bumper sticker—and getting donations. How about suggesting,”PATRIOT SPINACH – DENNIS KUCINICH”.
August 24th, 2007 at 2:33 pm
Kucinich Supporter
I don’t think this is a time for dreaming, this is no time to work for and simultaneously
wish for a progressive shift from the Democratic Parties frontrunning centrists. I watch many Democrats doing it though. It’s incredibly sad and
quite unbelievable to me.
I will work my butt off to get Dennis Kucinich message out to the people of this
country who need to hear it. I will try to convince Democrats (party types) that
Dennis Kucinich is the right man at the right time, a ‘dream’ candidate
who supports peace, not for profit, no Nafta, etc….When is the last time we had
a candidate like that Democrats? And I still hear and see cynicism and fear. Please knock
it off.
It’s time for people to stand up.
Without cynicism and without fear.
The TV, Radio and Newspapers and whoever don’t get to vote for me. I get
to vote for me.
Stop playing pundit. Who the heck are you working for? I hope you’re working
for yourself. Don’t let anyone take the wind out of your sails by their maneuvers.
They can’t take the wind out of mine. Guess why? Cause Dennis Kucinich is right.
And it doesn’t matter what they (do say/don’t say) because I’m still
going to work for a candidate I believe in and for someone who is saying the right
things. ‘The rich man has his money and his vote, the poor man just has his
vote’. Don’t get cynical and cop out!…..Choose wisely and vote Dennis Kucinich. Did
you ever stop to think that they want you ‘down’? Well are you going to
let them keep you there? Dennis wouldn’t and doesn’t. Neither will I.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Too many people in America and the
world are losing ground, just getting by, actively suffering…”Strength Through
Peace” is way more than a three word slogan for the Kucinich Campaign. It
makes us think about what ’strength’ really is.
If Democrats vote on the issues and on the issues alone, Dennis Kucinich is far
and away their candidate and their choice, http://www.dehp.net/candidate/ http://www.dehp.net/candidate/stats.php
…but we know cynicism and fear are contagious, and many will support
someone else, someone who equivocates, someone whos’ plans are more unclear, someone who capitulates
to ‘interests’ other than those of the public good, and
someone who struts with talk of ‘first strikes’, ‘retaliatory strikes’ and authoritarian
zeal.
If they support one of those candidates….then it is a matter for them and ‘their’
conscience.
I will vote my conscience. I will vote for hope. I will vote for the country I want
to see. I will vote for Dennis Kucinich because I am a person of peace and I am
not afraid.
Because I know a vote based on ‘electabilty’ is a vote based on fear. And
that is the opposite of hope. And that didn’t get us very far in the last election.
And that will never change anything in America. I want Dennis Kucinich vision for
America to become a reality, and so I will help and support his campaign and vote
for him.
And I know that Dennis Kucinich represents mainstream America, he represents the
change that this country needs and would like to see, even if some believe in their ‘media
driven’ cynicism and fear, that change may be outside of their grasp. Raise up your
hearts and lift up your minds, embrace the hope of a real future and a brighter future…and their
will be a Kucinich Presidency.
August 24th, 2007 at 6:59 pm
It is rare for someone to blow a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and then receive a second chance to redeem themselves.
Very fortunately, in 2008 Americans get a second chance to nominate and elect America’s once-in-a-lifetime candidate–Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich.
We need a Kucinich Presidency to DELIVER US FROM EVIL. Almost all the other candidates from both parties are nothing more brainwashed warmongers and Kucinich exposes them as such in every debate.
I think a major reason two of the frontrunners were caught scheming to eliminate Kucinich from the debates is that deep inside they are scared to death of him–not because he attacks them with deliberate intent but because he simply always tells the truth.
It’s now or never folks. We can have a war with Iran, martial law here, RFID spychips embedded on all of us and the cancellation of the 2008 elections OR we can have Kucinich. there is no more time available for indecisive wishy-washy thinking.
I think the real litmus test to be considered a progressive is whether you support Kucinich or not. He is the only true blue progressive in the race.
People who have been saying since 2003 “I really like Dennis Kucinich BUT I don’t think he’s electable” have only a few months left to wake up.
Comment: Everyone should be contacting House members in support of Kucinich’s Cheney impeachment bill, House Resolution 333. The toll-free number is 1-800-828-0498
August 26th, 2007 at 6:34 pm
Dennis Kucinich has an impeccable record in the House of Representatives and prior to that, as a mayor in Ohio. He has voted against the Bush/Cheney Republican agenda since day one. No other Democrat has taken on the Bush regime like Dennis has, and he will get my vote next year. I have been supporting him for several years and had the honor of meeting and speaking to Dennis at the union hall the first time he ran for President.
As a liberal, progressive person, Mr. K has the best policies for our country and any working-class, anti-imperialist/fascist person should vote for Dennis and continue spreading the word. And I’d be happy with Mike Gravel as the VP.
August 28th, 2007 at 11:39 am
If the Dems chose Kucinich and the Repubs chose Ron Paul, I would be thoroughly happy with the two choices for the first time in my life. The debates would be fantastic.
August 28th, 2007 at 12:02 pm
The answer is simple, and uncomfortable: American progressives have been trained to believe it is possible to waste a vote. This belief system preaches it’s better to vote for the least-evil option, whom you have been told might win, rather than the best option.
The wasted vote myth is similar to belief in creationism, in that both are statistically and scientifically debunkable.
Yet, when you tell a Democrat this, she literally starts frothing at the mouth. (Watch the replies to this post to see what I mean.)
The wasted vote myth is so deeply entrenched, it now effects the primaries. Which is why good candidates like Kucinich will never win the primary. (Frankly, Kucinich’s role in the Democratic party isn’t to win – it’s to give progressives an excuse not to volunteer for the Green party… but that’s another topic.)
Liberals may bleat, whine, and stomp their feet – but ultimately they are gutless when it comes to election day. They vote for the “D”… no matter how out of synch the candidate is with their values.
These same liberals, who refuse to vote their conscience, gasp in surprise when their elected officials support FISA, refuse to sign onto universal healthcare, or fail to hold the Bush administration accountable for the quagmire in Iraq.
August 28th, 2007 at 12:26 pm
Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul for 2008 !
August 28th, 2007 at 12:52 pm
actually, the crazy thing is that the one kucinich supporter i know keeps insisting that people REALLY want to vote for him. just like you. i happen to think he would be a terrible president, and that’s not out of “fear”.
August 28th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
Indeed, indeed. I supported Kucinich to the very end in 2004, and I will in 2008 (now that I’m old enough to vote!).
Almost everyone I talk to about him basically says “I really like him, but nobody else is going to vote for him, so I don’t want to waste my vote.” Talk about self-fulfilling prophecies.
August 28th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
There is no way in hell a thinking person given the Bush, Clinto, Bush-Cheney years of corporate politics masquerading as populist politics could chose anyone other than Dennis Kucinich. This guy is the real deal and I think finally the USA can have a president who will accomplish something truly worthwhile for the planet. By the way, if you vote GOP, please leave the USA. You don’t understand how Bush and company have totally screwed things up.
August 28th, 2007 at 6:17 pm
FYI – Kucinich is being attacked on the homefront by Dems in Ohio. Dems are spreading rumors and half truths trying to get him out of Congress:
http://www.rosemarypalmerforcongress.com/index.php?page=display&id=92 http://www.asohiogoes.com/index.php/site/comments/anyone_else_see_a_pattern_hackett_kucinich/
If you like what Dennis is standing for – drop him a dime or maybe 5 bucks and show your support.
http://www.dennis4president.com/
August 28th, 2007 at 7:50 pm
Kucinich is he strongest Socialist of the Democratic party. Though I am staunchly anti-socialist, I will say that he may be the most genuine of the Democratic candidates (with Edwards being by far the most hypocritical and phony). Centrists win elections until we get more than two parties (and my vote would lean libertarian), but until then we will all be chosing the lesser of our own personal evils.
Our choices are largely determined by our personal experience and personal benefit. For instance, I was not and likely never will be wealthy, but grew up in an area where social programs such as welfare were largely abused and where government jobs were accurately referred to a white-collar welfare. Those who worked hard felt that their excessive tax dollars were going to waste. At least I can agree that K. has based his choices on his personal experience in lieu of a want for power.
August 28th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
How about a Kucinich v. Ron Paul debate, just to make this
bicameral sham a little more interesting. Where does K. stand on the prohibition against the cultivation of hemp, or any of the other candidates. This plant is still deemed to be a narcotic in this government (that says something, doesn’t it?)
Aren’t your AFL-types bending over backwards to get those ‘cheap labor’ workers to fill their coffers. Universal health care starts in your refrigerator.
What if Jerry Garcia and Nora Jones had a baby: would you vote for her?
August 29th, 2007 at 8:52 am
Im sure it does sound good to you until his policies are implemented then youll find out how poorly socialism works.
Trying to impeach Cheney or Bush would be a disaster politically (for Democrats);forcing solar, wind, etc… on the country wouldnt work if theres no market for it; The Great Depression was in large part caused by being protectionist on trade….
There are good reasons why Kucinich isnt winning; its not all about him looking like an elf. His ideas wont play to the mainstream of the coutnry (he’d lose in a landslide), and they wouldnt work anyhow.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:21 am
Jonesy, I think there is a Hollywood movie in there – Invasion of the Straw Men!
Let’s start with socialism – Europe is kicking our ass and its currency is much more valuable than the US dollar. Hell, even the communist nation of China has a better economy than we do.
No to solar? No to wind? Since when is there NO MARKET for electricity? Confuddling, that one.
Trade tarrifs are bad? Can you explain why the worked so well for the Middle Class until they were dismantled by NAFTA? I could swear I hear a giant sucking sound.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:24 am
Here is a partial list of candidates that couldn’t get elected…
Ronald Reagan
George Bush Sr.
George Bush Jr.
Bill Clinton
Elizabeth Dole
… and the list goes on.
September 7th, 2007 at 10:27 am
Talk is cheap.
I gave Kucinich $100 a week or so ago.
Not a penny or a vote to Clinton, or Obama.
Edwards is a last chance, otherwise I will vote for my cat.
November 28th, 2007 at 10:20 am
You all Rock! Be courageous America, vote for who you want to win and don’t comprimise. Good Luck to you all.
February 8th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Darn it. He was the candidate that best fit my ideals, too. Now it looks like I’m going to be stuck with either Clinton or Obama.
Meh.
