A great many of us have looked forward to the day when Rove left the White House for good, but have we really thought about a post-Rovian BushCo White House?
I haven’t.
I have sometimes thought Cheney chaffed a bit at Rove’s apparent closeness to Bush Junior – there were some places where the VP couldn’t tread due to Rove’s position. Cause God knows, anything that would disrupt Cheney’s Fourth Branch Of Government is a bad thing.
We have all seen how far Cheney is willing to push his power WITH Rove firmly planted in the Oval Office, but will Cheney now see ANY limits? How much of a impediment was Rove to Cheney?
Don’t get me wrong, I am glad Rove is gone, but I don’t think the Democrats have a strategy in place to handle “All Cheney, All The Time.”
SPECIAL FAVOR SECTION
Never let it be said liberals don’t support the troops.
During the first Gulf War, I began collecting books to send to my college friends serving in Saudi Arabia. I must have sent hundreds of books. When US troops got deployed to Iraq, I started doing it again but I knew the job was too big for one person to do it, so I set up Books For Soldiers, a 501 (c)(3) charity to send free books, dvds and video games to deployed US soldiers.
But I wasn’t that smart since I only thought the war would last 6 weeks tops in Iraq. What was I thinking? Now, FOUR years later, we are still shipping books.
But today I need your help. There is a contest sponsored by VAJoe.com, they will contribute $2,000 to charitable military organizations next month in its Charity for Charities event. You can vote on your favorite charitable military organizations. The top four charitable organizations and a randomly selected organization will share $2,000 in donations from VAJoe. Books for Soldiers has been included in the event.
The Alexa Traffic Rank for BooksForSoldiers.com is 242,975 and you would not believe our bandwidth bills!
So these next few days, I am asking (begging actually) for your vote for Books For Soldiers. It won’t take you 30 seconds to help a liberal out!
A short, fast and easy site registration is required.
P.S. Thank-you Michael Moore for supporting BFS.

Rove is gone…
This makes AF40K most happy indeed. He has not been this happy about the current state of our government since Rummy got the can.
Yes…AF40K is most happy indeed over this development.
But despite this, I now must wonder why he is suddenly deciding that he NOW wants to spend time with his family (not that this is a bad thing mind you). Is he jumping ship to save his own skin? Are there more nefariuos plots?
This decision and announcement is pretty sudden, it seems to me, and that alone makes it dupious at best.

He wouldn’t leave without 2 things:
1) He’s got a get out of jail free card from Teh Preznit
2) He’s passed on all his dirty tricks to someone else in the administration
Now for the scary question…Who’d he pass all his knowledge to???

Problems with your statement Brendan.
1 – He does not need a ‘Get out of Jail Free Card’. Main reason is that it is utterly pointless to have one in the first place. While Bush is in office, he is pretty much untouchable (he can cite agreements, etc. like some other ex-advisors have in the recent past to keep from testyfing). By the time Bush gets out of office, it is too late to do anything anyway. Besides, Ex-Presidents can’t issue Pardons anyway.
Yes, they could still try to get him…but what would he be charged with? How would they make it stick? Would all of the effort be worthwhile even if it is on sheer principal? Is it worth wasting (more) Taxpayer dollars on this? If any of these answers are a ‘No’ or, at least in the negative, then Rove is safe.
2 – Rove served as an advisor and manipulator for Bush. It is too late in the game to care about that anymore (at least in an offical capacity). I could see him sticking around for Governor or something…but you don’t get higher than the President of the United States. Therefore there is no reason to push for the next level.
Rove’s tricks are not necessarily hidden…they are just what you described them: Dirty. He knows the system inside and out and knows how to work in and around it and twist things to his advantage. Nothing really to pass on to be honest.
Besides, even though Rove has let office in an official manner…that just means that he cannot officoally make policy or stuff like that, but he can still advise and pull strings. That said, he most likely has MORE freedom to do whatever he wants…and he doesn’t have a political career to concern himself with anymore as his work is done.
