He blames his faux pas on jet lag, but I don’t believe a word of it.
During the Democratic debate on the Gay-centric network, Logo, Bill Richardson was asked if he believed homosexuality was something you are born with or is it a lifestyle choice. He said it was a choice… twice.
I am getting very, very tired of people running for office who lack BASIC scientific skills and curiosity. Homosexuality is not something that a few humans opt to engage in, but it is something that occurs with all mammals and most of the animal kingdom. It has been reported in Time, Newsweek and on all major news outlets – how Richardson could have missed this is anyone’s guess.
The whole incident brings up the issue of what else Richardson doesn’t know? Does he really know how to get out of Iraq? Does he really know what the Centers For Disease Control is supposed to do? How about Los Alamos? Will he be able to fix NASA? That will take some brains – educated brains.
The next debate for Richardson should be on “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.”
From the looks of it, that is where we need to start with him.

My biggest question about all of this is why in the world is homosexuality even a political issue?
It really should not matter, and those folks that think it does or should are simply throwbacks to the middle ages when Religion ruled all…and it was against Western Religions to do such things.

Agreed. I am still trying to figure out why science IS a political issue.
Carl Sagan is turning over in his grave.

I can understand many aspects of science being a MORAL or ethical issue (Yes, we can do this…but should we?).
But politics should not play any part in this. It does, unfortunatly because people are lazy and do not want to make those sorts of decisions for themselves…prefering that the government do it for them (I think a good look at our own government and social structure is a testement to why this is a BAD idea).
No, I do not think Carl Sagan is turning over in his grave. He’s doing backflips so skilled and continuious that an acrobat would be jealous.

Storm bear, see my post: http://maryt.wordpress.com/2007/08/11/gov-bill-richardson-blows-it/

Richardson is an idiot.
The important bit is
“You know I don’t like to categorize people. I don’t like to, like, answer definitions like that that, you know, perhaps are grounded in science or something else that I don’t understand.”
admitting science is something he doesn’t understand. We don’t need another pres who doesn’t understand science and is proud of it. Jeez.
Big Bill put the kibosh on a local county clerk issuing marriage licenses but did it sneakily and behind the scenes. Then later when he realized it was popular he gently backed domestic partnerships. If he was really for it he could have rammed it through. He controls the dem legislature.
